General Plugin Help
VST plugins are not recognized in the DAW
Troubleshooting Guide for the VST3 Plugin in a DAW
If you are having trouble seeing or using the VST3 plugin in your DAW, please follow the steps below to resolve the issue. This guide applies to general DAWs. For more specific details and procedures, contact the respective manufacturers.
User presets are not saved
If your User-Presets are not saved, please first check the following:
- Check if the plugin is correctly activated. An unactivated version is not able to save a user preset. Then reopen the UI (close the plugin and open it again).
- You must explicit save (disk-symbol) the preset. It is not enough to rename the preset by double-clicking on the name.
- Check, if you have write access to the folder of your userdata, e.g.
Windows: C:\Users\<user>\Documents\MB....\A...\userprograms\
Mac: ~/Library/Audio/Presets/MB.../A.../userprograms/
For Mac: "~" is your user-folder. This folder can normally not be accessed via the Finder, but you may use the Finder's menu-command "go to folder...". Optionally, use the terminal to go to this folder and check if it's there...
Please note: This folder is NOT created by the setup! The plugin creates this folder after first startup. So if you already started the plugin, the folder should be there. Please check if such folder (also the parent-folders) does exists and whether you have full read- AND write-access to it.
It's important that you also start your DAW under the same user-account than the write-access exists.
There are two other methods to store a user-preset:
- Store your presets using the DAW functionality (or export preset files via your DAW if supported).
- Use the plugin function "Copy current parameters as XML to clipboard" to paste the preset to the clipboard as text and save these texts. To use the preset-texts again, simply copy the text to the clipboard and use the "Paste XML in clipboards to current parameters".
Backup user presets
How can I backup my (user-) presets?
The presets you create (user presets) while working with a plug-in are stored in XML-files named like "preset_xyz.xml", where xyz is the name of the preset.
Windows:
This files can be found in your "My Documents" folder under MolecularBytes\<plugin-name>\userprograms\.
For atomicReverb on Window-10 for example: C:\Users\<username>\My Documents\MolecularBytes\AtomicReverb\userprograms\
You can include this file in your backup program. If you are creating backups of your "My Documents" folder anyway, you don't need to do anything - your presets are saved automatically.
Mac:
The files can be found in your user folder under ~<user>/Library/Audio/Presets/MolecularBytes/...
There's a folder for each plug-in containing the XML files of the user-presets.
FAQ: About Updates
Questions and answers about plug-in updates
When and why there will be updates of plug-ins?
An update usually includes enhancements and bug fixes.
We will always provide updates of our plug-ins when we added improvements or fixed bugs. However, we will not release a new update for every single fix, but collect a "reasonable" amount before a release.
Possibly an update may also include some features/enhancements.
An update gets always a new version number (e.g. change from 1.0.100 to 1.1.123).
Whether you have installed the latest version of a plug-in on your computer or not you have to check the version number which is displayed in the About dialog of the plug-in.
Will I get updates when I purchased a plug-in?
Yes! If you purchased a plug-in (e.g. AtomicReverb) and register the serial number on our website with your user account (you must have previously created a user account if necessary), you always have access to downloads of current versions and updates.
To load an update, login to our website and go to "Account -> Software".
Where can I download updates?
Updates are available on our website.
You must log in as a user first, then select "Account" -> "Software" and download the update.
If you haven't an account on our website, you can register for free.
If you have purchased software from us, you can use the product's serial number that you received when you purchase to register it on "Software". This will enable you to download the latest versions and releases of the latest software.
How long can I get updates?
Updates can be downloaded without restriction - there are no time limits.
If we release a new major version which includes a lot of new features and improvements, this version may be chargeable - as this would be similar to a "new" product (In such cases there will be a low-cost upgrade for customers who own an older version of the plug-in).
